Learn to love your voice

When we think about using our voice, it’s not just about how it sounds—it’s about the impact it can have. As someone who has spent years getting comfortable with my voice, I understand the challenges that come with it. Whether it’s speaking too fast or struggling to add variety in pitch, I’ve been there. But throughout this journey, I’ve learned that our voice is an incredible conduit for influence.

Whether you’re speaking to one person or a thousand, your voice has the power to inspire, educate, and change lives. It’s not just about the words you say, but the way they resonate with others. That’s what truly matters.

In my journey to improve my vocal delivery, I’ve been fortunate to work with voice coach Sally Prosser. Her insights and tips, which she shared in our latest podcast episode, have been incredibly valuable. From helping me slow down to adding more variety to my pitch, Sally has guided me in focusing on the message I want to convey, rather than getting caught up in how my voice sounds.

Here are a few of Sally’s tips that have been particularly helpful for me:

  1. Warm up your voice: Before speaking or recording, take time to do some vocal warm-ups. This simple practice can help you relax, reduce tension, and ensure that your voice comes across clear and strong.
  2. Use storytelling: Stories are a powerful tool to connect with your audience. Incorporating personal stories or examples can make your message more relatable and memorable, creating a deeper connection with those listening.
  3. Be authentic: Authenticity resonates with people. Being yourself and showing your personality not only makes you more relatable but also helps your audience connect with the real you.
  4. Visualise your audience: Imagine you’re speaking directly to a friend or a specific person in your audience. This mental exercise can help you connect more personally and make your delivery more conversational.

These are just a few of the many tips Sally has to offer, and I know you’ll find them as useful as I did. If you’re interested in learning more about how to use your voice effectively, I highly encourage you to listen to our conversation on the latest episode of the ‘Podcasting for Business Owners’ podcast.

Remember, it’s not about having the perfect voice; it’s about using your voice to make a difference.
