Is video podcasting worth it? My honest take after visiting 4 studios
Over the past few weeks, I’ve visited podcast studios around Perth. Not just for fun (though I do love being in a studio!), but because I’ve noticed more people are talking about video podcasting.
If you’ve been podcasting for a while, or you’re just getting started, you might be wondering “do I need to be on video? Is it worth the effort?”
Here’s what I think.
Audio vs video. What’s best when you’re starting out?
For most business owners, especially coaches and consultants, audio is still the best place to begin.
Once you add video, it’s easy to get stuck in your head. Suddenly you’re thinking about what to wear, if you’re animated enough, whether your background is tidy enough, or if you’re making weird hand gestures.
All that overthinking can take the focus off your message, and that’s what your audience cares about.
Audio, on the other hand, is simple. You can record from home, in your PJs, on a bad hair day. No Pinterest-worthy office required.
When video podcasting does make sense
That said, video does have its place, especially if you’re further along with your podcast, or your brand is visually strong.
Video podcasts can be great for:
- Repurposing content for Instagram, YouTube or TikTok
- Creating visual connection with your audience
- Building authority on camera
But if you’re going to do video, my advice is to make it easy for yourself. And that’s where a studio can really help.
I visited 4 podcast studios in Perth. Here’s what I found
If you’re based in Perth and thinking about video podcasting, here are four local studios I’ve personally visited. Each one has a different vibe, setup, and price point, so there’s something for everyone.
1. Podwave Studios – Leederville
Beautiful wooden panels, for up to four speakers

2. Nevverland Studios – Landsdale
Feels boutique and creative, great for you and one guest

3. Bright Tsar – Myaree
Two aesthetic backgrounds to choose from

4. Magic Studios – West Perth
Smaller space, but you can interview one person in the studio or via a screen in the studio

What to consider before booking a studio
Not every studio will suit every podcaster. Before booking, think about:
- Are you filming solo or with guests? Make sure the studio has enough seats/cameras for each guest.
- Do you want full editing included or just the raw files? Raw files are HUGE, so make sure to take your own hard drive.
- Do you need a studio that matches your brand’s visual vibe? Some studios allow you to have your own branding in the studio
- How often will you record? It might be worth planning and recording multiple episodes in one session to make the most of the space.
If you’re unsure, I’m happy to help you figure out what setup suits your podcast goals best.
