When to press pause on your podcast and why it’s okay
Running a podcast can do wonders for your business, but only when it still feels right.
If you’re feeling out of alignment with your podcast or simply stretched too thin to keep up with it all, this post is for you.
Recently, I made the decision to press pause on my own podcast. Not because I’ve fallen out of love with podcasting (I haven’t), but because my business has evolved and my podcast needs to catch up. Here’s what I’ve learned in the process.
Why I stepped back from my own podcast
This was not an easy decision.
Podcasting has played a huge part in my business, it’s how I’ve built relationships, showed up consistently, and helped clients feel like they knew me before we even spoke. But lately, the podcast didn’t feel aligned with where my business is heading. It started to feel like a task on my list, rather than a place for connection.
I recently went on a trip to the UK for a month. I thought I’d come back refreshed and with new ideas. But I came back even more exhausted. And the thought of writing, recording, editing, repurposing… it all just felt much. Also, my mic stopped working.
That was my sign.
Signs it might be time to pause your podcast
If you’re feeling unsure about continuing with your show, these are a few things I’ve seen (and experienced myself):
- You’re dragging your feet to record, what once felt fun now feels forced.
- Your business has shifted, but your podcast hasn’t, so the episodes no longer reflect the value you truly want to share.
- You’re doing it all alone, and it’s not just tiring, it’s making you resent the process.
Pausing doesn’t mean giving up. Sometimes it’s the best thing you can do.
What a break can really give you
Stepping away might feel scary, especially if you’ve been consistent for a long time. But the right kind of break gives you:
- Time to think without the pressure of performance
- Space to reconnect with your voice and message
- Energy to return with a clearer direction and more excitement
Rest is productive. Reflection is strategic. And nothing grows without pauses in between.
You’re not alone (and you don’t have to do this alone either)
If you’re nodding along right now, I want you to know you’re not the only one. Podcasting takes a lot of energy, and it’s okay to admit when it stops feeling good.
And if you’re sitting with the question of “what next?”, I’d love to help.
Whether it’s editing, strategy, or just having someone to talk it through with, I’m here. You don’t have to figure it all out by yourself. Book a call with me here and let’s see how we can work together.
