Have you ever wondered why some podcast episodes get clicked on while others get scrolled past?
Have you ever felt like your podcast no longer fits the business you’ve built?
In this episode, I’m opening up about something that’s been on my mind for a while… I’m hitting pause on the podcast. Not forever, but for now. I’ve realised I need time to reflect, recharge and rethink how this podcast can truly support you, because lately, it hasn’t felt aligned with where my business is heading.
You’ll hear what led to this decision, why I believe taking a break can be the best move, and how I’m helping clients go through the exact same thing: pivoting their podcast when their business evolves. If your podcast is starting to feel like a chore, this one’s for you.
This episode is a reminder that rest is part of the process, and it’s okay to pause in order to come back stronger. I’ll share where you can stay in touch while the podcast is on hold and what’s next for me behind the scenes.
Have you ever felt like your podcast isn’t aligned anymore? Come share your thoughts with me on Instagram @podcast.support.services, I’d love to hear from you.

Laura McRae is a podcast consultant and educator for business owners
Laura: Welcome to Podcasting for Business Owners. I’m Your host, Laura McRae, a podcast consultant, educator and self confessed podcast nerd. If you’re thinking of launching a podcast or want to grow the one you have, you’re in the right place. Hold on to your headphones and let’s go. So it’s been a few weeks since I last recorded a podcast episode and if I’m honest, I didn’t really want to record this one. I’m going to talk about something I’ve been nervous to talk about. I’m m pressing pause on this podcast. I’m finding it’s harder to produce my own podcast than it is to produce my clients podcasts, but I’m only pressing pause. I’m going to be back. I need to think about how I can give you the best possible value from a podcast because at the moment I feel like I’m not putting my all in it. So I feel like I need a break and I need to get excited again about this podcast. It will probably end up going in a slightly different direction, but I’m not sure in which direction just yet. I know, I know it’s important to be consistent with your podcast, but at the same time it’s really important that you enjoy your podcast and that it doesn’t become a chore. I found recently that my business has changed a little bit and therefore I feel like I need to change my podcast with it. And this is something I’ve helped my clients with in the past. They’ve had a podcast that they once loved and enjoyed bringing out and then they come to me because their business has changed and they don’t know whether to start a new podcast or just rebrand their old one. And this is what I’m going through at the moment. So where people come to me to talk about this, I’ve gone to my own business coach and she’s really helped me work out who my ideal listener should be and how I can give value. And now I just need a break to work out how I can bring that value to you. Sometimes we need these breaks just to think and be refreshed and come back with more energy. So recently, what happened to me, I live in Perth, Australia, but as you can probably tell from my accent, I’m from the uk. So we went to the UK over June and July and took a long break. And on the run up to this break, I was so busy with client work because I didn’t want to work whilst I was in the uk. So I was getting ahead of time. So I was so, so, so busy. I was doing twice the amount I’d normally do in a month. And then on top of this, I had my own podcast to produce. And not only do I record my podcasts, obviously, and write the show notes and edit it, I also repurpose every episode and create newsletters, blog posts and social media posts out of that content. So when I create a podcast, I repurpose it in as many different ways as possible and make the most of it. And I recommend that something that you do too. And this is also something I do for my clients. But as you know, when it comes to running a business, it’s easier to do your client work than it is to do your own work. So when I came back from a holiday, I loved getting back into my client work, but I just couldn’t focus on my own work when I was away. I thought, oh, a break will do me good, and when I come back, I’ll be refreshed and have all these brilliant ideas for the podcast. But actually the opposite happened. I came back and I was exhausted. Family holidays for us is normally just me, my husband and my two kids and we go camping. And here in Australia, there’s not much to do. When you go camping, you go to the beach, go for a walk, there’s a lot of sitting around doing nothing, which is great for relaxing. And it’s also a great time to reflect on your business. And I often come up with my best business plans when I go camping. But this holiday was not like a camping holiday. I was off seeing friends and relatives all over the country and we even went to Paris, to Disneyland, which was amazing. So, as you can imagine, it was a lot of go, go, go, and there was no rest time. And then I thought, oh, maybe I’ll come up with some ideas on the aeroplane. Because basically I’m doing Nothing for almost 24 hours on a plane. But I just wasn’t in the headspace to think about work when I was on that plane. All I wanted to do was sleep and watch movies. So, like I said, it was so busy when I came back, I just didn’t want to get back into podcasting because I know how difficult it is. Or it’s not so much the difficultness, it’s so time consuming. And without blowing my own trumpet, I realised then why people hire me. It would be great to just record an episode and just let someone else do the rest. But I solely produce everything for my podcast and it’s made me really see how you feel. So when people come to me saying they’re not aligned with their podcast anymore, I always recommend they take a break. So I’m going to practise what I preach and take a break. And if you’re struggling too with your podcast, I recommend you do the same. Or if you need someone to bounce ideas off, or need support with editing strategy or repurposing your podcast. By repurposing I mean
