What should your first few podcast episodes be about?
If you’re planning a podcast, there’s a lot to think about: equipment, editing, artwork, uploading… But one of the most important things is often the most overlooked.
Your content.
Specifically, those first few episodes.
They’re more than just content. They’re your first impression. They’re what helps your listener decide if they trust you, if they want to keep listening, and if they’re ready to learn more about working with you.
So, here’s a simple, no-fuss framework I use with my clients.
Start with three episodes (and keep them solo)
Yes — I always recommend launching with three solo episodes. Here’s why:
- It builds trust. Your audience gets to hear from you first.
- It creates bingeability. More than one episode gives them more to explore.
- It boosts visibility. Multiple plays on launch day help with charts and discoverability.
And don’t overthink the length. Stick to under 20 minutes for each. It keeps things digestible and helps with full episode listens, which platforms love.
Episode 1: Your story and your values
This episode is your chance to connect. Share how you got here, what this podcast is all about, and why it matters to your business. Let people get to know you, not just your business, but your values too.
Episode 2: Something relatable and relevant
This is the one that makes people feel seen. What are your clients always stuck on? What do they Google at 11pm? What quick tip would instantly help them feel like you get it?
Keep it practical, but personal. Give them something they can action today.
Episode 3: Prove you know your stuff (without reading your CV)
This episode builds credibility. But instead of listing qualifications, show what it’s like to work with you. Share some mindset shifts, a quick strategy tip, or even a journaling prompt that helps them get unstuck.
You want them finishing this episode thinking: “I learned something, and I like how she explains things.”
