When it comes to creating podcast content that connects, there’s one simple but powerful question to ask yourself:
Where are you hiding in your content?
If you’re podcasting, or thinking about it, and worrying that your message doesn’t feel unique, you’re not alone. So many business owners tell me they’re stuck trying to sound “professional,” or they don’t want to say the wrong thing. But in doing that, they take out all the personality, and that’s exactly what makes a podcast forgettable.
If you want your podcast to stand out in a sea of sameness, you have to let people hear you in it.
Your personality is your point of difference
I recently spoke to Tahryn Bolt, messaging and marketing strategist and host of How I Do Content, and she put it perfectly, your biggest point of difference isn’t your framework, or your format, or even your fancy mic.
It’s you.
The way you speak.
The things you love.
The stories you tell.
And if you’re not letting any of that shine through, your podcast risks blending in with everyone else’s.
So, what can you do about it?
Steps to make your podcast stand out
Whether you’re just launching or have been recording for a while, here are a few ways to start making your podcast sound unmistakably like you:
- Pick one personal detail (a phrase you always use, a quirky obsession, or a strong opinion) and bring it into your episode intros, sign-offs, or examples
- Use stories from your own experience to illustrate your points, even if they feel small, they’ll make your message stick
- Audit your last three episodes and ask yourself: “Does this sound like something I’d actually say?” If it doesn’t, tweak it
- Stay consistent with your voice across platforms: your podcast, your DMs, your Instagram Stories, so people really get to know you

Why this matters
Podcasting isn’t about reinventing the wheel. You might be sharing ideas others have said before, but your way of sharing them (your voice, stories, and personality) is what makes them land differently.
Final thought
If you’ve been playing it safe or worrying about whether your podcast is too similar to others, consider this your reminder to stop hiding. Your podcast doesn’t need to sound like anyone else’s, in fact, it shouldn’t.
And if you’re not sure where to start? Go back to that one simple question:
Where are you hiding in your content?
