How to Repurpose Your Old Content for a Podcast

How to Repurpose Your Old Content for a Podcast

You don’t need to start from scratch to launch your podcast

If the thought of launching a podcast feels overwhelming or like “one more big thing” on your list, here’s something that might surprise you, your first few episodes might already exist.

Those recorded webinars, masterclasses, live trainings, or even internal presentations you’ve delivered? They’re all perfect material for podcast episodes. I’ve helped several of my clients use this exact approach to launch successful, professional-sounding podcasts with ease, without needing to record everything from scratch.

How to turn existing content into a podcast

Before you open another blank Google Doc or plan out a new podcast season, check your digital folders. You might already have some gold just waiting to be shared.

Here’s how to get started:

1. Audit your existing content

Go through your saved Zoom calls, Facebook or Instagram Lives, internal training sessions, or guest expert sessions from memberships or courses. Ask yourself:

  • Is this still relevant to my audience today?
  • Does it align with my current offer or business goals?
  • Is the audio quality good enough, or can it be cleaned up?

2. Edit out anything that doesn’t make sense in audio

Live content often includes visuals that don’t translate to podcasting like references to slides, charts, or “look at this outfit!” moments. You’ll also want to cut:

  • Long intros and filler
  • “Can you hear me?” moments
  • Shoutouts to a live chat
  • Outdated tips or time-sensitive references

I use and recommend Auphonic, it’s a free tool that extracts audio from video, levels volume, and reduces background noise, making your episode sound polished and professional.

3. Add context with a short intro or outro

Let your audience know what they’re listening to and why it matters. Something like:

“This episode was originally recorded as a masterclass for my email list, but the content is still incredibly helpful if you’re trying to [insert goal your audience has].”

This sets clear expectations and helps your listeners feel like they’re getting something special, even if the content is from last year.

4. Be strategic with what you repurpose

Think about the bigger picture. You can:

  • Link episodes to your current offer (so it acts as pre-sell content)
  • Group related episodes into a mini-series
  • Build themes that support your marketing focus

Podcasting is such a powerful content marketing strategy for business owners when it’s aligned with your goals. Repurposing content isn’t just about saving time, it’s about using what you’ve already created in a way that continues to work for you.

Final thoughts

You don’t need to start from scratch. You might already have hours of binge-worthy podcast content, it just needs a little polish.

If you’re still unsure how to bring it all together, or if editing feels like a headache, this is exactly the kind of thing I help my clients with. Get in touch and let’s make your podcast launch easy.
